The house at 23 M. Curie-Skłodowska Street was built in the first half of the 18th century. The building rests on stone footings that form its foundation. Originally, the exterior walls were constructed using a timber-frame structure filled with brick and clay. The building’s structural framework, consisting of regularly spaced posts, forms a clearly defined grid. The building is located very close to a busy road, at a distance of only about 1.5 meters from it. It is separated from the street by a wooden fence, intended to serve as a sound barrier. After World War II, the site underwent a turbulent history: it served as a warehouse for the State Grain Enterprises and, in the 1960s, briefly as a school. Today, the building is a sight to behold. It has been restored and, in a sense, serves its original purpose. It is now home to “Gościniec Zamkowy”—a hotel and restaurant. The building was constructed on the Wieprza River, near Darłowo Castle and the castle mills, along the route circling the old town. This provided excellent economic opportunities for its owners at the time. The fact that this building was constructed somewhat outside the old town can be explained by the development of a road bypassing the center and the systematic expansion of Darłowo’s suburbs following the demolition of part of the city walls.
