The monument to Pope John Paul II commemorates Cardinal Karol Wojtyla's first canoe trip down the Drawa River. When the future Bishop of Rome was still working in Cracow, a group of young people gathered around him. Together they actively spent vacations and vacations. On July 18, 1955, at the place where there is now a municipal beach in Czaplinek, their first of the rafting trips down the Drawa River began. Cardinal Wojtyla came to kayak on the Drawa still in 1961 and in 1967. On the 50th anniversary of the first rafting trip, it was decided to make a statue of Honorary Citizen of Czaplinek Pope John Paul II. The sculpture was designed and made by Robert Sobocinski, a sculptor from Poznan. The monument was unveiled on June 3, 2005.
