A commemorative stone was placed on the site of St. George and St. Adalbert Church, which was completely destroyed during World War II. This church was built on the site of the cathedral, the seat of the first bishopric in Western Pomerania, established as a result of Bishop Otto of Bamberg’s Christianization mission in Pomerania. As a result of intense Danish raids on Wolin in the mid-12th century, the seat of the bishopric was moved to the better-defended town of Kamień Pomorski.
