Carbon is a substance composed of fragments, just like the collective human memory. Carbon is formed by the process of coalification, which turns plant fragments into peat. This process is not very different from the process of long-term memory formation in humans and society - the so-called memory consolidation of the transition from short-term memory to long-term memory. The process of memory consolidation can be considered similar to the process of charring - separate stories and memories form a long-term memory of an event. This is how a fossil becomes a memory archive rather than a fossil fuel.In a similar way we study cultural memory. We extract individual quotations, writings, inscriptions, texts, which, when analyzed, become texts of memory, texts of art.
