80 years ago, on August 1, 1944, the people of Warsaw decided to put an end to the German occupation of the capital. On that day, an uprising broke out in retaliation for five years of Nazi terror, street roundups, deportations to the Pawiak prison and concentration and extermination camps in German-occupied Poland.
As every year, alarm sirens will sound on the territory of Poland on August 1 at 5 p.m. , i.e. the "W" hour, as a tribute and commemoration of the heroes of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising.
