Musical competitions are by no means a modern invention, but have been part of musical culture since ancient Greece and Rome, where they were an integral part of the worship of deities. The modern abundance of competitions for instrumentalists not only provides an opportunity for many young musicians to achieve the success they crave, but also to interest a wider audience in the beauty of classical music. It is puzzling, however, that this competition eldorado is much less applicable to those who create music - composers and female composers. The Szczecin Philharmonic and the ZAiKS Authors' Association have decided to change this situation by establishing an international competition dedicated just to them.

This is the third edition of the International Mieczyslaw Karlowicz Composer Competition, which the Philharmonic is organizing together with the ZAiKS Authors' Association.

From among the submitted works of hundreds of composers from all over the world, the Jury will select several that will be heard on stage for the first time during the grand final concert. Only then will the winner be selected. In turn, music lovers will award the audience prize.

The first edition of the competition, still without a patron, was held on the occasion of the ZAiKS centennial in 2018. After the great success of that event, the second edition of the competition was organized in 2022. The Philharmonic Hall in Szczecin even seems to be an ideal space for presenting compositions by contemporary artists. Its bold, off-the-charts architecture is a natural setting for 21st century music. For music lovers, attending the final gala of an international composition competition is a unique chance to learn not only about the most current musical trends, but above all to hear as many as several world premieres during a single concert. Who knows, perhaps one of them will turn out to be a timeless masterpiece?
