The Collegium Groeningianum was built between 1879 and 1882, funded by Peter Groening, mayor of Stargard and a patron of culture and the arts, for a classical secondary school. It is a five-story building constructed of clinker brick. The facades are horizontally divided into three sections by decorative cornices. The building features large windows, a grand auditorium, and duct heating. Architectural details include an arcade supported by pillars and a frieze with a floral motif. Above the windows on the first floor on the south side are three medallions featuring busts of Cicero, Homer, and Athena. A model of the school was presented as a model school building at the World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1886.

It currently houses High School No. 1—the oldest school in Stargard. The building is open to visitors during school hours and by prior appointment with the school office.
