The bridge opened in 1994. Previously, a wooden bridge stood at the same location. The structure connects the banks of the 16-meter-wide navigable canal. The bridge span opens on even-numbered hours.
The bridge connecting Dziwnów with the island of Wolin was built in the 1950s on the site of a former ferry crossing. Initially, it was a wooden bridge with a single lift span. The current bridge, a steel structure, was opened in 1994. Its two spans lift to allow yachts, fishing boats, and cruise ships leaving the port to pass through. Raising the span opens a 16-meter-wide navigation channel.
The first bridge, built in the 1950s, became famous after appearing in the film *Four Tank Men and a Dog* as the setting for one of its daring stunts. The current bridge is a major tourist attraction, both for passengers on ships passing beneath it and for people watching the bridge-raising process from shore. The spans are raised electrically on even-numbered hours.
