Town Hall - the symbol of Stargard, can be found on many photographs of and postcards from this town. It is a Gothic-style building, erected in 1250. Initially, it was a masonry hall, which was used as a merchant’s house. For many years, it was used by merchants, judges and members of local governments. The characteristic features of the building are: pointed-arch windows, blind windows and tracery on the western gable. The building is covered with a pitched roof. It suffered from serious damage during the fire in 1540. Later, in the second half of the 16th century it was rebuilt. During the WWII, almost 80% of the building was damaged, but the building managed to survive till 1961. In 2000, a clock was added to the front part of the hall, and in the same year, the town’s bugle call was introduced. Since then, it has been played at 12.00 every single day. It is worth noticing that the town hall in Stargard is the only town hall in Pomerania with no arcades.
In 2013, the Town Hall underwent complete renovation. The roof, façade and window frames were all replaced with new ones. The interiors were also modernised. Nowadays, the Town Hall houses the office of the Town Council, and its basement is occupied by Stargard’s Scout Team and by Piwnica Towarzystwa Przyjaciół Stargardu [Stargard’s Fans Society Basement]. Sightseeing tours are possible during office’s duty hours.
