The Berlin-Szczecin-Kołobrzeg cycle route is a new tourist product being developed by the Marshal's Office of the West Pomeranian Province in cooperation with the Landkreis Uckermark.
The project was undertaken as part of the Interreg VI A Mecklenburg-Vorpommern/Brandenburg/Poland 2021–2027 program. Western Pomerania received €2.5 million in European funds for this initiative. In addition, several dozen million zlotys will be allocated from European Funds for Western Pomerania for the construction of new sections of this route.
Work on this large-scale new tourist product is ongoing. Activities are planned for the coming years to connect Berlin, Szczecin, and Kołobrzeg, so that cyclists can enjoy the regional attractions along the entire route. The route has a total length of almost 800 km, including 515 km on the Polish side and over 270 km on the German side.
Polish and German partners plan to promote the Berlin-Szczecin-Kołobrzeg route to tourists throughout Europe. The cooperation includes not only basic activities, such as the use of standardized messages on both sides of the border, but also the organization of events integrating cyclists from Poland, Germany, and other European countries. Activities in this direction have already begun – in February 2024, the 1st Polish-German Cycling Tourism Days were organized at the Marshal's Office in Szczecin. There will be more and more similar initiatives.
Cycling route through Poland and Germany. Detailed schedule.
The entire loop will be almost 800 km long. Most of the route is based on existing routes, so it is passable today, although it is not marked. The largest investment works are planned for the section between Stepnica, Golczewo, and Gryfice, and Rymanów, where the construction of a 2.5-meter-wide, 82-km-long bicycle path is planned.
The planned route in Germany is as follows: Berlin-Usedom to Finowfurt; a path along the Oder-Havel Canal to Hohensaaten; the Oder-Neisse section along the Oder to Mescherin and the Blue Velo route to Szczecin. The route on the Polish side is equally varied: route 800 leads from Pargowo to Kołobrzeg (passing through Szczecin). Route 801, on the other hand, connects Kołobrzeg-Złocieniec-Siekierki. On the Pargowo-Szczecin-Stepnica section, the route runs alongside the aforementioned Blue Velo, which is very popular with cyclists. New sections will also gradually appear between Stepnica and Skrzydłowo near Rymanów. Another shared route – this time with the Old Railway Trail – can be experienced between Kołobrzeg and Złocieniec. The Old Railway Trail then connects with the Western Lake District route, which leads to the bridge in Siekierki.
Practical information.
The Berlin-Szczecin-Kołobrzeg route has been planned as a loop with a length of almost 800 km. This allows you to travel from Berlin to the Polish part of the Baltic Sea and return to Berlin via two different routes. The northern section is numbered 800, while the southern section is numbered 801.
Most of the route coincides with other national and regional bicycle routes. At present, there are no signs for the Berlin-Szczecin-Kołobrzeg route, so you should follow the signs for these other routes. A schematic representation of the common routes is shown below.
The northern variant on the section Stepnica - Golczewo - Gryfice - Rymań, as shown on our website and in the West Pomerania app, has been routed along existing public roads with low traffic or forest roads with varying surface quality until the planned investments are completed. Only small sections in Golczewo and Gryfice run along roads with higher traffic volumes. This section, marked with a dotted line on the map below, is recommended for more experienced cyclists.
