We wrote about the investments that have already been completed in our previous article. This time, we present data from bicycle counters, and soon we will also present statistics from our website. Where in Western Pomerania do cyclists ride most often, and which routes are the most popular online? Let's start with the counters.

Summary of cycling investments in 2025.

Bicycle counters – what the data shows

There are currently 17 bicycle counters in the region, the newest of which – in Rudki near Wałcz – was launched last year. Apart from the counter in Świnoujście, located at the border and marking the start of the Polish section of the Velo Baltica route, all devices are located outside urban areas. Their main purpose is to record tourist traffic, both single-day and multi-day. Throughout 2025, we recorded 1,680,514 trips – a result very similar to the previous year.

Despite a similar total number of trips, 2025 was a record-breaking year. The highest number of trips in a single day was recorded on August 16, with as many as 21,330 cyclists. We wrote more about the summer records in a separate article.Cycling summary of the summer

The cycling season is getting longer

When planning routes, there is often a complaint that the cycling infrastructure is only seasonal. Indeed, the highest traffic occurs during the summer months, but the data clearly shows that the cycling season in Western Pomerania lasts much longer – from March (over 52,000 trips) to the end of October (nearly 79,000). In winter, traffic is lower, but it does not disappear completely – from November to February, counters record from a dozen or so to around 30,000 trips per month.

There is a clear trend towards a gradual lengthening of the cycling season. During the holiday period, the meter readings were similar to those in 2024, and in some places even lower (a decrease of about 4% from June to August). This may have been due to a cooler and rainier summer and temporary closures of some border crossings. At the same time, we saw clear increases in spring and fall. For example, in November 2025, 56% more cyclists passed through the counter in Toporzyk on the Old Railway Trail than a year earlier, and in Rogów on the Velo Baltica route, the increase reached as much as 90%. In total, in November 2025, we recorded a 14% increase in traffic compared to the previous year, and in the post-holiday period from September to December, an increase of 7%. This is not enough to make up for the summer loss in annual terms, but we are extremely pleased that the increases are being recorded in the less touristy season, thanks to which more year-round MPRs can operate. Cyclist-friendly places in the West Pomeranian Province

Most popular routes

When it comes to the popularity of routes, it is no surprise that coastal sections dominate. The Velo Baltica route (EuroVelo 10 and 13) is definitely at the forefront of the statistics – it has five counters, which occupy the entire podium and several other high places. The highest number of trips was recorded in Świnoujście, with Sarbinowo and Rogowo also achieving very good results, both with over 200,000 trips. The next places on the R10/13 route are Darłowo (95,000) and Kołczewo (67,000).

The counter in Mielno, located on the Old Railway Trail, also achieved a high position, exceeding 100,000 crossings on December 26. The other counters on this route – in the vicinity of Toporzyk and Karlino – recorded significantly less traffic, with 16,000 and 13,000 crossings, respectively.

The route around the Szczecin Lagoon is also very popular, especially in the area of Pilchowo and Lake Dąbie (67,000 and 33,000 crossings, respectively). Both counters count many residents of Szczecin going on weekend trips to the Wkrzańska Forest or Lake Dąbie. Less traffic was recorded in Czarnocin and Nowe Warpno – slightly over 10,000 trips – although in the case of Nowe Warpno, the temporary closure of the crossing at the border had a significant impact. In July, this counter recorded about 30% fewer cyclists than in the same period last year and as much as 40% fewer than in June of the same year.

There are three counters on the Western Lake District Route – in Nowe Objezierze, Mostkowo, and Borne Sulinowo – which recorded between 20,000 and 30,000 crossings each. A similar result was also achieved by the counter in Chwarstnica, near Gryfino, on the Blue Velo route.

What the numbers say – summary

The collected data clearly shows that the cycling infrastructure of Western Pomerania is used intensively not only in summer, but throughout most of the year. The growing number of trips in the spring and fall months confirms that cycling is increasingly becoming a year-round activity, and regional routes play an important role both for tourism and recreation for residents.
