Gravel adventure around the Szczecin Lagoon
If riding on asphalt paths is not enough for you, we have something special. The gravel version of the route around the Szczecin Lagoon is 320 kilometers of adventure, where the comfort of the official trail mixes with the wildness of forest paths, views straight from observation towers, and moments when the road belongs only to you.
The trip starts off calmly – from Szczecin to Świnoujście, we follow the well-known, official route, mainly along flood embankments. But the real adventure begins after crossing the border. Instead of a smooth bike path, we choose the route along the sea – this is our "stage zero," a section of the Velo Baltica route that smells of salt and freedom. This is where the ride that will remain in your memory for a long time begins.
Further on, atmospheric villages and forest sections await you, leading all the way to Altwarp. The ferry is left behind – we choose the wild paths along Lake Nowowarpieńskie. It is worth stopping at the observation tower and catching your breath – the panorama of the lake surrounded by greenery is a reward for every kilometer in your legs.
The next few kilometers take you to the heart of the Wkrzańska Forest. Instead of roads towards Trzebież and Police, we choose forest fire roads that lead among lakes and swamps. Here you can encounter seagulls, terns, and great crested grebes, and the only sound accompanying your pedaling is the rustling of trees and the singing of birds. This part of the route is the essence of gravel biking, with nature at your fingertips and paths that give you a sense of true freedom.
Entering Szczecin is a return to civilization. In the vicinity of Lake Głębokie, the familiar markings of the official trail reappear, from where we can reach the city center and the main railway station. From there, you can return home... or plan your next adventure.
The gravel version of the route around the Szczecin Lagoon is an option for those who are not looking for the easiest solutions, but want to experience a real journey – full of wild nature, unexpected views, and the satisfaction of kilometers covered. This is the essence of cycling freedom.
